LA BOCA

Walking Tour

Unfortunately this charming old neighborhood has a slightly undeserved reputation for being less than safe. While there are certain streets not recommended for visiting tourists, the majority offer a very unique look at life in the city. Some people believe that modern Buenos Aires culture evolved out of the clapboard barrio of La Boca. This is where the immigrants arrived and many stayed. Mostly Italian laborers landed in the city and formed a colorful neighborhood. Tango is believed to have evolved out of La Boca as well as the local dialect known as Lunfardo that most local Porteños still speak.

Take a walk past the famed stadium of the Boca Juniors and learn why their colors are yellow and blue and why they are known as the 'Xeneizes'. Hear about the exciting history of Diego Maradona, a living legend worshipped by Boca fans. Take a walk down the city's unusual Caminito where the corrugated houses are painted a dazzling array of colors, and learn why the barrio ended-up painted this way. See where Quinquela Martin got his start as one of Argentina's most revered painters.

La Boca is a must see destination on any visitor's itinerary.

Tours are done for one to six people. They last two to three hours and cost U$D15 per person
